Meeting transcription: turn a recording into text

Meeting transcription here works on the recording, not on the call: download the Zoom, Teams or Meet recording as a file, upload it, and every spoken phrase comes back with a timestamp, ready to export as TXT, SRT or VTT, free for a first recording of up to 10 minutes. No bot joins your meeting, and speakers are not labeled.

How to transcribe a meeting recording

A finished meeting becomes a transcript in four steps, and none of them needs access to the call itself.

  1. Download the meeting recording. Save the recording as a file from Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or the recorder you used in the room. An audio-only file is the lightest choice.
  2. Drop the file on the upload area. Drag it onto the area at the top of the page; video recordings work too, since the sound is taken from them. Without an account your first recording is transcribed free: in full up to 10 minutes, the first 10 minutes of a longer one.
  3. Read along with the recording. The recording plays from your device beside the text, and a click on a timestamp moves the player to that line.
  4. Export or process the transcript. Download TXT, Markdown, SRT or VTT, or run an AI action on the text for minutes, a summary or a list of decisions.

If a Teams meeting already has its own built-in transcript, you do not need this page for it. It is for the recordings that have none: a call where transcription was never turned on, a meeting someone else recorded, or an in-person talk captured on a phone. Any recording format is accepted; the overview explains how to transcribe an audio file to text.

Getting the recording

Where the file comes from depends on the tool, and every route ends with a file on your computer.

  • Zoom: a recording saved on the computer includes an audio-only .m4a next to the video; the M4A audio track is the lightest thing to upload.
  • Microsoft Teams: download the meeting recording, an MP4 video, and upload it as it is.
  • Google Meet: download the recording from Drive and upload the video file.
  • A meeting in a room: record it on a phone and upload the file; a phone recording of a meeting follows the same steps as a voice note.

Video files follow the same path as audio, only larger.

From transcript to minutes, notes and action items

A meeting transcript is the raw record, and AI actions turn it into the documents a team actually reads.

The transcript keeps the order of the conversation and a timestamp per phrase, so you can jump from a line in the notes to the second where it was said. On top of it you can run an AI summary of the meeting, detailed meeting notes, or a prompt of your own, such as “list the decisions and who owns each action”. These actions run only when you choose them and come with the transcription at no extra charge. Because the AI reads the text, not the call, a decision that nobody said aloud will not appear in it.

Long meetings and big files

A meeting of up to 4 hours and 500 MB can be transcribed, but a video recording reaches the size limit long before the time limit.

  • Without an account: files up to 100 MB; your first recording is free, in full up to 10 minutes.
  • After sign-in: files up to 500 MB or 4 hours.
  • An hour of video can be large: if the file is over the limit, use the audio-only recording, which is a fraction of the size, or split the meeting in two.

Past 4 hours, upload the meeting in parts and join the texts.

Minutes in numbers

Meeting transcription costs one minute of balance per minute of recording, rounded up, whatever the number of people on the call.

  • A 10-minute stand-up is your first recording: free, no account.
  • A 1-hour meeting uses 60 minutes, which is the 1-hour pack at $2.99.
  • The 3-hour pack at $7.99 holds three such meetings; the 10 gift minutes at sign-up cover a short one.

The price is shown before the start and charged only after a successful transcription; the table of packs is on the overview page. For a talk with one guest rather than a team, the guide to transcribing an interview shows the format.

Where the meeting recording goes

A meeting is often confidential, so the path of the file is stated here in full.

  • The original file is deleted from our server as soon as the sound has been extracted from it, or after about an hour if the transcription never starts.
  • The extracted sound goes to OpenAI’s Whisper for recognition, and its pieces are deleted once the transcript is ready.
  • Without an account the text is held for about an hour for the page to collect it, then lives only in your browser; after sign-in it is saved in your account.

If your company bars outside services for recordings, check that rule first; the privacy policy has the details.

What it doesn’t do

The page does not attend meetings, does not name speakers and does not transcribe live.

  • No bot for Zoom, Teams or Meet; only a recording you have downloaded.
  • No speaker labels: the text is one stream of time-stamped lines.
  • No live captions during the call.
  • Only the first audio track is used; per-participant tracks are uploaded one by one.
  • No links to cloud recordings: download the file, then upload it.

Frequently asked questions

Can it join my Zoom or Teams meeting and transcribe it live?

No. Nothing joins your call and nothing is transcribed live. The page works on a recording file after the meeting is over.

How do I transcribe a Zoom recording to text?

Download the recording, drop the audio-only .m4a or the video file on the upload area, and the transcript comes back with timestamps. Your first recording is free, in full up to 10 minutes.

Does it work for Teams and Google Meet recordings?

Yes, as files. Download the recording from Teams or Meet and upload the video as it is; the sound track is extracted and the picture is ignored.

Does the transcript show who said what?

No. There are no speaker labels, only a timestamp on every line. If names matter, add them by hand using the timestamps and the player.

Can I get meeting minutes and action items?

Yes, through AI actions on the finished transcript: detailed notes, a summary, or a prompt of your own that asks for decisions and action items. Check the result against the transcript before you send it to anyone.

Is my meeting recording kept on your server?

No. The original is deleted as soon as the sound has been extracted from it, or after about an hour if the transcription never starts; only the text stays, in your browser or in your account.
